Arsenal has beaten Manchester City to the signing of Declan Rice in a British record fee of a total package rising up to £105 million, with West Ham United getting a guaranteed £100 million and the other £5 million in add-ons.
English midfielder, Rice has been heavily linked with Arsenal since Arsenal and West Ham United met in the Premier League last season at the Olympic Stadium.
Arsenal sign Rice after long weeks of negotiations with reports also linking Manchester City to the deal, which further complicated things for the Gooners and they became desperate.
Mikel Arteta was believed to have had a chat with the West Ham captain over a move to the Emirates and the Spaniard has now been able to see off interest from Manchester City to sign their priority target of the summer.
Rice comes into an Arsenal side growing and in fast speed having finished the last Premier League season in second place, occupying the top spot for most part of the campaign.
The fell off in the latter stages of the season costed them the chance to win the title since their Invincible run in 2003-04 under legendary manager, Arsene Wenger.
The fell of can be blamed on multiple reasons, one of them being injuries and another their inexperience at a big stage with so much pressure to maintain positive results.
However, this summer has seen Mikel Arteta make efforts to avoid a repetition in the future with the acquisition of winners and leaders.
Kai Havertz is the only player officially signed so far but the arrival of Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber to the club is imminent.
All three of Rice, Havertz and Timber are winners at their respective clubs, from where they are moving to Arsenal and this will further add to the mentality of the side.
Rice, in particular is the biggest signing of all and in multiple ways. Beating arch rival, Manchester City to his signature also makes the deal sweeter, because adding him to that Pep Guardiola’s team will further dent any hope of challenging the Citizens for the league title.
Rice, at 24 and with his massive talent will define a generation alongside the young Arsenal squad. They have a long way to go but there is no denying they have all it takes to conquer them all.
On the back of winning the UEFA Europa Conference League with West Ham United, the feeling of Rice after securing a move to the club he wanted the most and be a part of an exciting project must be incredible.
With the former Chelsea Academy player, Arsenal’s chances of challenging for titles get even bigger and they have become more assuring, as this win over City shows intention of what is actually building up on North London.
Stan Kroenke has assured to get the club up there with the very best in the game and evidence of late has shown that it is not just talk, but it is being followed by actions.
After the pre-season games, Arsenal will kickoff the English top-flight football season with the curtain raiser when they battle Manchester City for the Community Shield title in Wembley.
It will be a good way to get their season underway as Arsenal, under Mikel Arteta has lost nine and won just once in ten meetings with the treble winners.
With Rice on their side and their upgraded self, the match will go a long way in defining how prepared The Gooners really are for the tasks ahead, as they’ll also be playing in the Champions League.
Whilst nothing is certain at this stage of the summer. The sure thing is the intention of the owners of Arsenal, and their willingness in getting the club to the next level.
The signing of Declan Rice, if things go well could define an era both for Arsenal and in the Premier League, because he is that type of signing that takes a club into a whole new level.
Thinking of how Arsenal fared last season, his impact in the coming seasons could see them finally get it right, and get their hands on targeted goals.
