Next summer, Harry Kane will leave Tottenham Hotspur as a free agent if he does not extend his contract at the club or seal a move away this summer.
Six years is a very long period but eventually, it comes to an end. Tottenham Hotspur have had one of the world’s best strikers on their books in over a decade and last renewed his contract in 2018, signing until 2024.
The England captain will enter the final year of his contract next season and the worry for Spurs is that the striker will surely not be willing to renew the agreement after what has been an underwhelming time at the club.
He turns 30 on his next birthday and despite being considered one of the finest strikers of his generation, Kane is yet to have a collective trophy to his name in more than a decade as a professional.
He has had multiple opportunities to move to a club like Manchester City in the past, where he surely would have won titles but was denied a move by Tottenham’s stubborn chairman, Daniel Levy, who choose to hold on to the striker even when he wanted the move.
Now the Citizens have gotten Erling Haaland and the train to the Ethiad has passed, he will have to reconsider his future, albeit he is never without suitors.
One of the painful consequence of Tottenham not allowing him move to City aside winning titles is that it paved way for the arrival of Haaland in the division, the Norwegian who has now beaten him to the golden boot award, despite Kane himself bagging 30 goals.
A move to Manchester City would have been more fitting and tick every box in the desires of the striker, who surely has his sight set on surpassing Alan Shearer as the all-time top scorer in the Premier League.
With Real Madrid amongst the clubs linked with a move for him, leaving England will see him give up the quest to achieve the goal record, which he is now 48 goals away from surpassing.
However, a move to a club like Manchester United, who are in need of a striker will also be a good move if he wants to remain in England as it will assure him the chance to surpass Shearer but winning titles is not assured, though still not impossible.
A move to Chelsea and reunite with Mauricio Pochettino is also on the cards if in the end of Argetine choose not to work with Romelu Lukaku. Kane, if available will be one of the options he’ll consider, given how good they worked together in North London.
But with only a year left on his contract, Kane can also choose to payback Tottenham with the same coin as revenge for them not letting him fulfill what could have been a dream move to Manchester City a couple of summers ago.
Running out the final year of his contract and leaving as a free agent will be the best way to do that, but he will also have to pay the consequence too, because he will be above 30 come next summer.
At that age, he might not be as alluring to top clubs as he is in this period and that could also mean he can no longer secure move to the bigger teams.
The ball is in his court and a big decision will be made. It is obvious that the heavens has presented Kane with a chance to get back at Daniel Levy, but is he ready to accept and pay the price that comes with it ?
