Two more matchdays to go in the Serie A and history awaits Victor Osimhen if he is able to see off Lautaro Martínez in the race for the top scorer prize in the Italian top-flight league.
Seeing off the challenge from Martinez will see him win the top scorer award in the league, making him the first African in history, ever to do so in the Italian top flight league.
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will also become the first Nigerian in history to win the top scorer award in any of the Europe top five leagues.
The Napoli striker has bagged 23 goals in an impressive season with Napoli in the Italian top-flight and helping the club securing a first Scudetto in more than 30 years.
Inter striker Lautaro Martinez is a man possessed in the run-in and is hot on the heels of Osimhen in the race for the top scorer award in the Serie A.
The World Cup winner has scored ten times in his last eleven games across all competitions. He has also been very effective off the bench, with four of his goals in this period coming when he had not started the games.
The good news for Osimhen is that Inter now focus more on the Champions League final date with Manchester City hence Simone Inzaghi will be more cautious on how he plays the Argentine to avoid injury.
Nonetheless, making top four is also a priority as it is a more safe route to reaching the Champions League next season so games against Atalanta and Torino are still of much importance to Inter.
Osimhen, though has the better chances of winning the award aside from being three goals ahead. Napoli faces Bologna and Sampdoria in their final two games and this is an opportunity for the 24-year old to add to his tally.
The former Lille striker scored against both teams in the reverse fixture and will be hoping to finally blow Martinez away when he faces Bologna this weekend and Sampdoria on the final day of the Serie A season.
Multiple records to be bagged by the striker, which he will hope will aid his cause to win the African Footballer of the Year award.
