Chelsea keeping tabs on Juventus star in a club record move

Chelsea are eyeing summer swoop for Juventus’ dutch defender, Mattijs de Ligt.

The former Ajax star has been linked with a move away from Juventus having not find life in Italy comfortable since joining from his childhood club in 2019.

22-year-old De Ligt has a wealth of experience, rather too much for his age having already made up to 300 appearances in top flight competitions, whilst he is also an established international player with one of the best nations in Europe.

He is seen as one of the many prospective players who would help Chelsea make up for the multiple departures in their defensive department and Thomas Tuchel will urge Chelsea to splash the cash to get him De Ligt.

The player cost Juve a whooping €75 million, with further additional costs of €10.5 million four summers ago and now two years left on his current contract.

Juventus are working on an extension but nothing has been agreed as the player is considering his future due to the club’s struggles, so Chelsea will be looking to convince the player to favour a move to London, where the project is more realistic.

Should an extension be turned down by De Ligt, Juventus might as well consider selling him this summer and they can hope interested clubs can pay his release clause of €120 million.

If Chelsea did priotize signing De Ligt this summer, they could kickoff the Todd Boehly’s era by smashing the club record fee for a signing, which was Romelu Lukaku just last summer.
