Sergio Ramos’ penalty 17 minutes from time was enough for Real Madrid to earn maximum point in Bilbao as they take a significant step towards winning the league title this season.

It was Real’s seventh win from seven games since the restart and a third consecutive 1-0 win within a week after beating Espanyol and Getafe on Sunday and Thursday respectively.

Lionel Messi also inspired Barcelona to a 4-1 win away at Villarreal as Griezmann, Suarez and Ansu Fati all on target.

Defender Pau Torres directed a Jordi Alba cross into his own net in the third minute but Gerrard Moreno scored a leveler 11 minutes later before Messi teed up Suarez to restore Barça’s lead.

Antonie Griezmann justified his selection on the stroke of halftime when produce a cheeky finish from a Lionel Messi clever backheel to put Barcelona two goals ahead.

Lionel Messi did get a goal ruled out for offside before substitute Ansu Fati put the game to bed with his sixth league goal of the season four minutes from normal time as it finished 4-1 to The Catalans.

Villareal missed the chance to go level on points with Sevilla, who play later on Monday night, as continue the battle for a place in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Two goals from Alvaro Morata and one from Koke helped Atletico Madrid see off Mallorca at the Wanda Metropolitan on Friday night as they look to cement a third place finish this season.

At the other end of the table, it is not looking good for Espanyol after losing their last five games in a 1-0 home loss to Leganes on Sunday.

They occupy the 20th position and travel to Camp Nou in their next game. A loss will confirm their relegation from the top-flight while a win might not be relevant as their fate now depend on results in other games.

It is almost certain they will be relegated this season. Mallorca and Leganes occupy the remaining relegation places with four games to spare.

Sevilla host Eibar while Real Sociedad travel to Levante on Monday night to complement the matchday 34 fixtures. The result of both matches will have significant effect on qualifications for European club competitions and relegation from the top-flight.
