Julian Nagelsmann’s agent Volker Struth has confirmed in a podcast that Chelsea did approach his client right after the sacking at Bayern Munich in March.
Struth went on to stress Nagelsmann did reject the approach due to multiple reasons, starting from their situation at the time to their transfer policy.
He said; “I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call [after Nagelsmann’s dismissal at Bayern]. It was the right decision by Nagelsmann not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment”
“Chelsea’s transfer policy, spending a few hundred million Euros, has raised expectations that need to be met. There were also other issues. He was their number 1 choice, that was our information. I believe it would have happened if he wanted it.”
Chelsea went on to appoint Frank Lampard on interim basis but it’s not been the best of return for the former club manager as the club has recorded just a win in eight games under him, losing seven times.
Chelsea are now close to appointing former Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who left PSG last summer after 18 months with the Parisiens, which saw him his first titles as manager.
Nagelsmann has also been approached by Tottenham Hotspur but at the moment, nothing is concrete. The wait to see where the former Leipzig manager will work next continues.
