Kingsley Coman has enjoyed a successful first eight years since turning a professional footballer having won a lot of collective prizes even if it could have gotten better, but has the 24-year old maximize his potentials ?
Born and raised in Paris, Coman joined local club Paris Saint German’s academy at the age of eight and became the club’s youngest ever debutant on the 17th of February 2013, at just 16years, eight months and four days when he replaced Marco Verratti in a 3-2 defeat against Sochaux.
After the end of his second season with the club’s first team was unable to prove himself deserving of regular football, Coman signed for Juventus after his contract with PSG expired in the summer of 2014, having won two Ligue 1 titles, one French league cup and one Trophée des champions while making just four appearances which all summed for 55minutes of football action.
Even with his undeniable talent, It took Coman almost two years after turning a professional to scoring his first goal which was his only goal for Italian giants Juventus, before temporarily and permanently joining Bayern Munich in 2015 and 2017 respectively.
Five years on playing for Bayern Munich, Coman is yet to become a guaranteed starter at 24years old. He did started and scored the winning goal of final of this year’s UEFA Champions League in Lisbon days ago but that was just his eight in a total of 38 outings this season, the joint lowest of any Bayern Munich attacking playing to have made more than 30 appearances last campaign.
After 193 games as a professional, he has just 35 goals to his name which could be considered a low figure for a promising talent of his calibre. Although his career has been hampered by series of injuries which also saw him miss the French World Cup squad in 2018 having been named among the 11 players on standby list made by coach Didier Deschamps.
Coman was also a part of the French team that lost to Portugal in the final of the 2016 European Championship and a part of the Juventus team that lost the final of the 2015 UEFA Champions League final to FC Barcelona. Had he ended up on the winning side in 2016 against Portugal and made it to the World Cup finals with France, he would have won all the trophies a player could win in a career.
The just concluded season is his best yet having made 38 appearances across all competitions, notching in eight goals and seven assists but it’s about to get tougher for Coman sext season as Bayern Munich have added Leroy Sane to their attacking options.
The emergence of Serge Gnabry at Bayern limited Coman to just 17 league starts last season and with Sane in the ranks, even with players like Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic expected to return to their parent clubs, Sane and Gnabry will be expected to sail ahead of the 24year old in the pecking order.
After scoring the only goal of the UEFA Champions League final, one would have thoughts that the best is yet to come from a player, who has won league title every year since turning a professional eight years ago, but reality catch-up with him.
With no rumor linking him away from Bayern Munich, will Coman be able to stay fit and force his way into the starting XI of the Bavarian in the coming season ?
