Liverpool host Tottheham Hotspur in the most important fixture of their remaining games in the league this season as things currently look on the log with The Reds looking to continue their winning run in order to keep up the pressure on leaders, Manchester City with four games to the end of the season.
For Tottenham Hotspur, it is also a make or break game for them as losing it could end their quest for a return to the Champions League next season after their failure to qualify last season meant a absent for them this season.
Antonio Conte’s side currently trail their North London neighbours, Arsenal with two points and only a win against a title chasing Liverpool can keep their dream alive before they meet with the Gunners in the North London derby at home in the mid-week.
Knowing Liverpool’s hunger to dethrone Manchester City of the league title, Spurs will have to put on a show like they did in the reverse fixture or even better in order to stand a chance if taking anything away from the game.
It is a tricky contest for both sides as Tottenham Hotspur under Antonio Conte has been unpredictable albeit they also have a mixed record against the top teams this season, including completing the double over Manchester City and losing the two league fixtures against Chelsea.
They were also able to earn a draw against Liverpool in the reverse fixture in a game they could have easily won had they convert their chances.
Nonetheless, they’ve proven very clinical under Conte and Liverpool will also be wary of the threat carried by the trio of Harry Kane, Hueng-Min Son and Dejan Kulusevski.
The host will however be the favourites to win the game albeit it will not come easy. Jürgen Klopp’s men have been in stupendous form since the turn of the year and their conquests has been rewarded with the Carabao Cup trophy, a place in the Champions League and FA Cup finals.
They have won each of their last six games and are unbeaten in 13 across all competitions. They also have a formidable record at home and that will make it so much difficult for Spurs to leave Anfield with anything.
Liverpool are unbeaten in each of their last eleven home games against Spurs, winning each of the last three by the same scoreline of 2-1. Tottenham last won away at Anfield in May 2011, years before Jürgen Klopp took over as the boss.
Their most recent win against The Reds was in October 2017, when Harry Kane inspired a Mauricio Pochettino led side to a 4-1 league win in Wembley, which was then a temporary home for Spurs before the completion of their London stadium.
Both sides is aware of how crucial this game will be in defining their respective seasons and both will want to take the bull by the horns in order to get the deserved result on Saturday evening.
