Man United Player of the month nominees looks hideous for any club.

Not many things are surprising in today’s Manchester United, where the standard is so low that they only celebrate a league win on average once a month.

On Tuesday, Manchester United released a list of three nominees for their Player of the Month for September, featuring Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko, and Patrick Dorgu, who are also close to being their worst players during the same period.

The Mancunians played three games in the month, compared to the six by their top English counterparts who are still active in the Carabao Cup and engaged on the continent.

Ruben Amorim’s charges kicked off the month after the international break, hopeful for their first back-to-back league wins under the Portuguese as they traveled across the city to face their neighbors, Manchester City.

However, their hosts showed no sign of giving anything away to a struggling side, as an Erling Haaland second-half brace added to Phil Foden’s first-half header to secure a comprehensive 3-0 win for Pep Guardiola’s team.

The following weekend, United entertained Chelsea at Old Trafford and were given a massive head start as the visitors were reduced to 10 men after just four minutes, prompting Enzo Maresca to take off all his attacking threats.

That gave the home team the chance to go 2-0 up thanks to first-half goals from Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, the latter then sent off for a second bookable offense just before the interval.

United conceded late in the second half but held on to secure their second win of the season. With no other domestic engagements, they had all week to prepare for their trip to Brentford, where they had won only once since The Bees returned to the top flight in 2021.

They got off to the worst start possible as the hosts took a 2-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes, with Igor Thiago scoring a brace to become the first player since Alexis Sanchez in 2015 to score twice in the opening 30 minutes against United in a Premier League game.

The visitors pulled one back through Benjamin Sesko before halftime but missed chances to level after the break until Mathias Jensen added a third for Brentford in added time.

United picked up three points out of a possible nine in September 2025, conceded seven goals, scored three, and failed to keep a clean sheet, finishing the month in 14th place, five spots lower than where they started it.

Manchester United’s Player of the Month nominees for September 2025, Bruno Fernandes, Benjamin Sesko, and Patrick Dorgu, would make a good list of nominees for anything but the Player of the Month award if there was one.

Bruno Fernandes in September 2025

Bruno Fernandes scored one of Manchester United’s three goals in September 2025, beating the offside flag to connect with a cross and open the scoring in the 2-1 victory over Chelsea at Old Trafford, but that was as good as the month got for him.

He completely lost it at Brentford, picking up a yellow card for a foul that could have landed him in more serious trouble, and then missing a second-half penalty that would have leveled the score at 2-2.

Benjamin Sesko in September 2025

Benjamin Sesko scored his first Manchester United goal in the 3-1 defeat to Brentford, becoming the first-ever Slovenian to score for the club.

He was just a passenger against Manchester City and had only eight touches in the first half against 10-man Chelsea before being withdrawn at halftime as Ruben Amorim looked to compensate for Casemiro’s red card.

Patrick Dorgu in September 2025

Patrick Dorgu assisted Bruno Fernandes’ opening goal against Chelsea and had a commendable performance at Manchester City, although he was still part of a defensive setup that conceded three times in a 3-0 defeat.

He picked up a booking at Brentford, as the hosts also scored three, taking United’s goals conceded during the month to seven.

The Struggle Continues at Man United

Twice this month, the club had the chance to finally break their back-to-back Premier League wins jinx but failed to do so. The positive here is that they had the chance twice in quick succession, a feat that had been far-fetched before.

They return to league action this weekend against newly promoted Sunderland, who have been a revelation and are currently fifth on the log with 11 points from six games under Regis Le Bris.

Manchester United have won 13 of their 16 Premier League games at Old Trafford against the Black Cats, with their only loss coming in the form of a 1-0 victory for the visitors courtesy of Sebastian Larsson’s first-half strike in March 2014.

It is an opportunity to try and finish the month on a high before heading into the next international break, and Ruben Amorim, whose four of nine Premier League wins have come against newly promoted teams, will be hopeful of continuing this impressive run.
