Class is permanent and form is temporary. As much as this cliche could be considered an exaggeration when employed in defence of a 24year old, Chelsea and fans need no lecture on how good Mason Mount was, and can still be for the club.
Fans and fanatics forget quickly, because in football, appreciation and respect are things of moment. Once the consistency in the performances that earned them is no more, these hypes are also withdrawn.
It is surprising to learn that the situation of Mason Mount has caused division amongst the Chelsea faithfuls, given how much he has given and how high he is held not too long ago.
Back to back winner of the club’s Player of the year. Some of these awards also voted by fans. Mount still is the same Mason Mount, one considered the best Cobham has ever produced not too long ago.
Whatever has changed between then and now surely can be gotten over. Chelsea have to make the efforts to reach a neutral ground with the 24year old, and avoid regrettable situations in the future, like they’ve had with players in the past.
Mount’s dip in form is even overrated taking into consideration that the performance of the entire team hasn’t been that good bar lately, that things seem to be getting better for the club again.
Some section of the fans are not helping matter either, with their continuously turning on one of their own at every slight chance they get. If that should even be the case for anyone at Chelsea, Mount has to be one of the names to excuse.
He has been a faithful servant and remember when the club had a transfer ban not long ago and can’t sign players, it was Mount and the likes that helped them overcome the trying times and not only did they just overcome it but did in sensational fashion.
Despite the lack of investment from a club that believe so much in signing ready-made players, Mount stood up for Chelsea and became a fan favourite because of what he does, and how proudly he represent the club.
He was a focal point in their journey to the Champions League triumph under Thomas Tuchel and made significant contribution in the final, assisting the lone goal against Manchester City to deliver a second title for the club.
Even in the season that preceded their Champions League winning season, Mount delivered for Chelsea on final day of the season, when a win was needed to seal top four finish.
His scrumptious free-kick against Wolverhampton Wonderers was a moment that will not fade too soon in the memory of Chelsea fans. Sadly, judgement has taken over many at the moment, and hardly can they even recall the good times.
That free-kick was probably the moment that turned things into good for Chelsea and set them on track to winning the Champions League the following year as it was a game they need to win to finish above Leicester City in the race for fourth place.
Maybe in the end, Leicester City fell to Manchester United and that automatically meant Chelsea advanced either ways but with all games kicking off simultaneously, it wasn’t for Chelsea to know how things was at the King Power.
Mount won back-to-back Club’s Player of the season and even finished 19th in the Ballon d’or ranking in 2021. He is a pure talent, one that should be cherished by the club, like they do others, or even better.
It’s funny how Chelsea fans have taken a liken to Joao Felix just because he is hyped. But when it comes to football and output, he comes short of Mount, despite being more of an attacker.
Since moving to topflight league, Joao Felix has not produced more than ten goals in a single club campaign across all competitions but he arrives at Chelsea on loan from Atletico Madrid on £250,000 wages per week.
Chelsea might not be the club that struck the agreement with the Portuguese when he left Benfica for Atletico Madrid but they agreed to paying him the amount, whilst they knew the impact it’ll have on the demands of others when signing an extension.
Mason Mount, who had been clearly the better player in that time currently earns less than £100,000 a week at the club and at 24, signing a new contract at this time means he is about to make the biggest decision of his career.
Who knows how many years is being discussed and the clauses attached to it. Maybe at the end of the agreement, he will be almost 30 and that means he won’t be getting offers as lucrative as he can get at this moment.
It is a critical stage of his career and he has the right to be selfish and think about himself. If anyone has the right to at Chelsea, then Mount is a name that comes in the possible first three.
With his current Chelsea contract ending in the summer of 2024, the coming summer presents the club the best chance to let him leave or see him depart for free in the following.
However, it will be disheartening if it has to come to that in the end. Reece James signed an improved contract not long ago and the terms are not that far from the demands of Mount. Chelsea should let him have it as well.
Considering the club has brought in Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and others, who earn wages in the bracket of Mount’s demands, it is not too much to ask for a servant whom you deemed stoodout above the rest in the last two seasons to also feel appreciated.
If it is because of the dropped form, it is only fair to note that he hasn’t been the only one whom has been poor this season at the club, almost everyone is.
Once the environment is positive like it has been lately, the chances are high that Mount will be back to his best. Think Marcus Rashford in Manchester United, the talent has always been there but did slowed down when the structure at the club collapsed.
How regrettable would they have been these days, if they had parted ways with him and now have to watch him do it for other clubs. It’ll even be better if in the end he doesn’t end with a rival club.
Mount is a player that will only attract interest from top managers and teams. Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Jürgen Klopp are managers who will likely queue for his signature should Chelsea at anytime decide to sell.
That has happened with Mohamed Salah and Kevin De Bruyne in the past. The difference is Mount has already made a name for himself, and won’t have to lay low for a couple of years before returning to the limelight like the ex Chelsea players.
It is time fans wake up to reality and quit having a go at Mount. Results didn’t quickly improve when he was dropped amidst the hate that was being targeted at him, which highlights the fact that he isn’t the problem.
He has never been the problem but rather the priceless jewel. So before you go about criticizing him, think of those moments on the road to winning the Champions League in 2021 and how much he has delivered for the club and tell yourself if he deserves the harsh treatment.
It will be better if Chelsea can tie him down to a new contract because there is still so much more to come from a player, who played such significant role in a run that will be forever remembered in the club’s history.

Firstly, I will say thank you for bringing us this perspective on this mount situation beautiful Insights and Analysis but nevertheless, You said, Mount playing the role of No.10 is one of Chelsea problem because he lack vision passes and he makes some unnecessary shooting you criticise him particularlythen, using the word" one of the Chelsea player who wants to collect 300k per week is part of the problem"
As a Chelsea fans, I truly love him and appreciate all he has done for the club but as for me I think he should be given the contract and a competitor like felix should be retain
Honestly this thread has given me a whole new insight on this Mount situation, absolutely incredible thread, WE LOVE YOU OLT❤️
Nice write up, I believe it's time he get what he deserves, if he missed now, it will be hard again for him and Chelsea as he will be available for free
Please give him any contract he wants . He deserves more than James to be honest
He deserves more than James?
Okay dey play
Bro, this is really top notch, I was supporting Chelsea before and said his demands are too much but after reading this, I think I can see things from his views as well and supports him, I hope he get his demands, I love him truly
I really want him to stay back I love him ❤️
Nice write up
Chelsea does not know what is their problem they think Felix is better than mount, I prefer mount than Felix because when it comes to footballers that know how to play ball mount is among them, Chelsea should try to know what’s their problem before they start hating on some players, all the players in the team lose form and all the losses they got it’s not because of mount , Chelsea should keep mount because there’s no player who is better than mount in Chelsea except starling, but Chelsea doesn’t need him they should let him go because he’s a good player that everyone knows.
Whoever wrote this, deserves some beer.
It saddens me how easily Chelsea fans had turned on Mason Mount just because Felix arrived.
I hope he leaves and joins a great team like Madrid.(if kroos leaves) Or a team where he will be playing.
This Great Nice One Boss
