OGC Nice striker Terem Moffi has emerged as the lucky star as he has been called up to take the place of the injured Victor Boniface in the Super Eagles AFCON squad.
Following the unfortunate injury to the in form Bayer Leverkusen striker, who is expected to arrive in Germany to begin rehabilitation on a groin issue, Terem Moffi is the man deemed fit by Jose Peseiro to take his place.
24-year-old striker Moffi signed for OG Nice in a permanent deal last summer having previously impressed on a six month loan from Lorient, when he scored nine times and registered three assists in 20 appearances in the second half of last season.
Moffi has continued his impressive form for Les Aiglons, scoring six times and adding two assists in 16 Ligue 1 games so far. He was included in the 40 man provisional list for the tournament but was eventually omitted in the final 25-man squad.
The striker made his international debut in a 1-0 loss to Cameroon in June 2021, coming on as a substitute for Paul Onuachu 24 minutes from time. He has since gone on to win 13 more caps and scored four goals.
Congratulations to Terem Moffi as he makes the national team squad to a major tournament for the first time.
The striker has also been given permission to return to France and represent in their trip to Rennes this weekend before joining the rest of the squad in Ivory Coast on the 13th of this month.
What now for Victor Boniface
Meanwhile the injured Victor Boniface returns to Germany to get fit in time and continue his fine form for Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Victor Osimhen remains Nigeria’s main striker and the current CAF Men’s Player of the Year winner will hope to continue his rise on the continent by helping his country add to their three Trophies in the competition.
Jose Peseiro was given an ultimatum to at least get to the semi-finals in Ivory Coast and anything less will be considered a disappointment.
