Picking top 10 Bundesliga players that could be nearing a move away from their clubs this summer is one demanding task, because a host of players have impressed so far in the Germany top division.
The Bundesliga this season has birthed an unusual experience for its fans, with Bayer Leverkusen closing in on the league title at the expense of Bayern Munich, who had won the 11 straight titles previously.
However, we take a look at the top 10 Bundesliga players that clubs should lockout for in the summer window.
Top 10 Bundesliga players to watch in the window
10. Mitchell Weiser of Werder Bremen
Weiser is in his final season with Bremen and is making the most of it to secure a more lucrative move come the end of the season.
The right midfielder is hailed for his versatility even as a youth. He has played in almost all outfield position except as a center back.
He combines the attributes in all the positions in his play, which makes him a one of a kind play. Loves to dribble, tackle and engage in duels.
Weiser has contributed nine goal involvement in 24 games across all competitions this season, though all this came in 23 Bundesliga appearances. He could move as a free agent in the summer if he insists on not renewing with Werder Bremen and will be a bargain for any side that would snap him up.
Number 10 in our list of the 10 top Bundesliga players to keep close eyes on in the summer window.
9. Deniz Undav of Brighton on loan at Stuttgart
Deniz Undav has not had a settled time at Brighton since signing for the English club in the winter of 2022. More of his happiness since then have come while on loan, formerly at Royal Union St. Gilloise and now Stuttgart.
The 27-year-old striker has been having a blast in the Bundesliga so far with 14 goals and six assists in 20 games, he is one of the top 10 Bundesliga players tipped for a lucrative move this summer.
The German is expected to return to his parent club in June but not permanently, he will look to secure a move away from the AMEX landlord.
Undav is a very deadly striker, mostly when he gets into the opposition box. 12 of his 14 Bundesliga goals have come inside the 18 yard box.
He is technically gifted and can take on the shot from impossible angles. Due to his shortage of height, he does not stay on the shoulder of defenders but prefer to drop into the pocket of space to allow him do his thing.
Brighton are not really in need of his services and will surely be willing to listen to offers, with the hope of optimizing his rising stock due to his impressive stint in Germany.
8. Matrias Svanberg of Wolfsburg
Svanberg is in his second season with Wolfsburg and should be considering a move away to upgrade his surroundings and get closer to the recognition his talent deserves.
The Swedish sensation is now 25, and appears to be wasting at a club battling survival in the Bundesliga. A move away this summer, to a more prominent club will suit his progression, hence his inclusion in this list of top 10 Bundesliga players expected to move in June.
The former Bologna man thrives when deployed as a center midfielder, whether as deep lying or in a pivot. His ball retention and ability to beat press makes him standout.
He is not that endowed with the vision for through passes hence his limitation as an attacking midfielder, but Svanberg does possess all other characteristics, including long passes and shooting from distance.
His contact at Wolfsburg runs until the summer of 2027 but a lucrative offer for a player signed for around €10 million two summers ago will persuade Wolfsburg into selling, even so if they fall into the pit of relegation come May.
7. Ermedin Demirovic of Augsburg
Ermedin Demirovic is one player poised to leave his club this summer and his performances for Augsburg this season has-been eye-catching for clubs looking to add firepower come the end of the current campaign.
In 26 Bundesliga games so far, the Bosnian & Herzegovina striker has scored 14 goals and registered eight assists, numbers which represents the most by any player of the club this season.
His 14 goals is a record in a single season for Augsburg and only three of Harry Kane, Serhou Guirassy and Ikoma Lios Openda have registered more than his 22 goal involvements.
With a contract ending in the summer of 2026, the 25-year-old is keen on a move away from Augsburg this summer hence is inclusion in the list of the top 10 Bundesliga players to watch in the coming months.
Demirovic would fetch Augsburg around €20 million, which would be more than just compensation for a player that joined as a free agent two summers ago.
6. Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich
It is really unexpected but it is becoming not impossible, Joshua Kimmich could be playing his final season as a Bayern Munich player.
The 29-year-old is reportedly keen on taking up a new challenge, and the Bavarians are ready to entertain offers for the former Stuttgart player, hence he is into our top 10 Bundesliga players to pay attention to this summer.
Arsenal, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid are the clubs alerted to his potential availability in the summer, and Kimmich himself is tempted by the prospects of joining one of these clubs.
The German has been an elite contributor for Bayern since his maiden season at the club. He has grown to become one of the best midfielders of his time and his versatility has also proven an asset for both club and country.
Kimmich is expected to play the rest of the season at right back for Bayern Munich due to the inability of winter signing Sacha Boey to adapt the the new environment in Munich.
An intelligent player with wealth of experience and technical abilities, Kimmich is able to dictate play from any position of the field, and it will take so much of Bayern finding a successor for the two-time Germany national team player of the year.
With a contract ending in 2025, it will be interesting to see how it works out for one of Bayern’s finest midfielders ever, who would have spent nine years at the club come the end of the season.
5. Alphonso Davies of Bayern Munich
As mentioned in one of my most recent articles, on the top 10 Ligue 1 players of the season, Alphonso Davies is one player not likely to remain in the Bundesliga after the coming transfer window and there is just one possible destination, Real Madrid.
The interest in the Canadian is not new, and it continues to worry the Bavarians as Davies’ contract runs out next summer. They would be open to selling this summer if he fails to agree to an extension.
The prospects of moving to Real Madrid is appealing to the 23-year-old like many of the players and Bayern are becoming desperate to keep one of their star performers.
The complicated situation prompted Davies’ inclusion in the list of top 10 Bundesliga players to watchout for in the coming window.
Real Madrid are likely to part ways with Ferland Mendy and has also expressed their interest to pursue the interest in Alphonso Davies, who has played more than 180 games for Bayern, winning a host of silverwares including the 2020 UEFA Champions League title.
The left-back is known for his pace and dribbling. Davies possesses all the qualities demanded of a modern day left-back. Handful defensively and dominates duels like a monster.
He has a great flair for attack and his nine goals for Bayern is no testament of this but 15 in just 45 games for his country tell more of the story.
Davies also has more than 40 career assists and the potential of him adding to the number of stars in Real Madrid is scary, but not for Los Blancos.
4. Leroy Sané of Bayern Munich
Even though the German has not scored since October, his numbers this season have been quite impressive and is up there amongst the top 10 Bundesliga players this season.
21 goal involvements in 36 Bayern Munich games across all competitions, no player has more than the former Manchester City man’s 11 assists in the Bundesliga this season.
A pacey winger that can be deployed on both flanks, Sané is ever impressive, seasoned and a proven player, both at club and national team level.
The 28-year-old has a contract that ends next summer with Bayern Munich and as long as the delay in signing an extension drags, the more the probability of him being approached with lucrative offers by top teams abroad.
Liverpool should they lose Mohamed Salah, Manchester United and Chelsea should they look to upgrade on their current options or other top clubs outside of Germany would all be interested in luring him away from the Allianz Arena.
3. Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen
The prince charming of Leverkusen will get more of his deserved recognition, when Bayer Leverkusen is eventually crowned the Champions of the Bundesliga this season, which is becoming inevitable.
Florian Wirtz has come a long way and even after suffering a devastating ACL injury in March 2022, which made pundits fear he may not fulfill his potentials, he has since returned to prove the odds wrong.
Wirtz is an attacking midfielder, although he can also play wide on the left as an inverted winger, as evident in his player of the match performance in Germany’s win over France.
The 20-year-old has a marked offensive mindset and is a very dynamic midfielder, who covers a lot of ground, dribbles his way out of troubles and creates a lot of chances, and choas whenever he gets into the final third.
He is a productive machine and has 28 goal contributions in his 36 appearances across all competitions for Leverkusen this season, while he also recently scored his maiden international goal for Germany.
It has been an exhilarating season for the youngster, who was named the second best player of the 2021-22 Bundesliga season. This season could see him finally clinch the award as the best player.
It would be the climax of what he could possibly achieve at the club and with the UEFA Europa League title also a possibility, the end of the season could see him already a club legend, and leaving the ovation is high will be tempting.
2. Xavi Simons of PSG Paris Saint-German on loan at RB Leipzig
One of the brightest youngsters in the game, Xavi Simons continues from where he left off from his loan to PSV Eindhoven last season.
He kicked off his stint with the Red Bull club by thrashing Bayern Munich in Germany club football curtain raiser in August, as his side ran out 3-0 winner thanks to a Dani Olmo hat-trick.
He possesses great technical ability, high energy and his explosive style of play make him a tricker player to defend against. So far, the 20-year-old Dutch international has registered 20 goal involvements in 36 games across all club competitions and he is in the list of the top 10 Bundesliga players to watchout for.
He’ll be headed back to PSG in the summer and despite having a contract until 2027, the former Barcelona Academy star will likely seek a permanent move away from Paris, and will definitely not be short of suitors.
1. Serhou Guirassy of Stuttgart
The lanky striker has been on a sensational form since first joining Stuttgart on loan in the summer of 2022 but has taken it to a whole new level since the start of the ongoing season.
Outrightly one of the top 10 Bundesliga players to watchout for in the coming window despite only signing a long-term contract with the Bundesliga club last summer.
With 24 goals in 22 games across all club competitions, his stock has risen significantly and could easily be the leading Goalscorer in the division, but for the presence of Harry Kane in Bayern Munich.
Very clinical and proactive, Guirassy is a proven goalscorer, one that thrives in both conservative and possession-based sides.
A host of Premier League clubs have shown interest and a lucrative offer could persuade Stuttgart into selling the 28-year-old as early as the coming summer, before his stock starts diminishing due to age.
