Top 10 Serie A Players to Watchout for in the Summer Window.
10. Charles De Ketelaere of Milan, on loan at Atalanta
The Belgian sensation arrived in Milan in the summer of 2022 with lots of promise, having impressed with his boyhood club Atalanta, where he went on to make 120 senior appearances, scoring 26 goals and 19 assists.
It was thought that he would be piece that would see Milan build on their Scudetto success, and maybe go one to rule in the Serie A with Juventus looking a team in shambles at the time.
Then a 21-year-old, he was signed for around €35 million. Unfortunately, he had a first year to forget in Italy, scoring just one goal contributions, an assist, in 40 games across all competitions, including nine league starts.
“On the pitch I am a very offensive player. I like to start and finish the action by moving accordingly. I tend to get down and receive the ball, look for the last pass and score as an attacker,” De Ketelaere explaining his style upon arrival to Milan in 2022.
The former Club Brugge teenagers continued; “I also work hard in the non-possession phase but I prefer to have the ball between my feet.”
He has since put the disappointing first season in Italy behind him since the start of this season. He has scored 10 goals and seven assists for Atalanta, where he currently is on loan.
At 23, De Ketelaere should be settling down ahead of his prime and his decision this summer will be very vital. His loan to Atalanta is for two seasons but with his resurgence, top clubs could approach to lure him away.
If Milan can not be home to one of football’s brightest youngsters, then he has to salvage what is left of his career, even with a contract until 2027 with the Rossonerri.
No. 10 on our list of the top 10 Serie A players who could really use a move in the summer.
9. Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa of Napoli
It is no longer the same exciting Napoli that had spectators on the edge of their seats. It is now an edgy team, struggling to avoid defeats against even the minnows. And to worsen matters, Piotr Zielinski is joining Inter as a free agent in the summer.
All these could see Zambo Anguissa seek an exit this summer, with Juventus and a number of Premier League clubs interested in luring him away with a more lucrative deal.
With one more year left on his contract, it presents Napoli the final chance to sell the Cameroonian midfielder, or risk losing him for free in the summer of 2025.
Anguissa is a unique box-to-box defensive midfielder, who has a skillset of an all-round midfielder. His technical prowess gives him the edge over most of the others in his position.
Loves to dribble his way out of tight spaces then launch a counter, with many of the pressing players already left for dead, making the numbers count in favour of his side.
The 28-year-old will be a massive addition for any side but he won’t come cheap on wages, given he is approaching 30, and will most likely be his final real chance to earn good money in elite football.
He could also consider a move to the middle east and be a part of the Saudi Arabia project.
8. Alessandro Bastoni of Inter
Maybe there’s not much being said of the Italian center back leaving the club but the financial difficulties of the Nerazzurri could see them part ways with one of their priced asset.
For this reason, Alessandro Bastoni finds his way into our list of possible top 10 Serie A players who could have a new club in the next season.
With a contract until 2028, it does put Inter in control of negotiation for a player who is highly rated as one of the best left-footed center back at the best defensive team in Europe this season.
Bastoni is one of the highly rated center back in Europe and has been previously linked with London teams like Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, both who could pay a worthy amount of money to Inter.
At 24, Bastoni is probably Inter’s most valuable asset and selling him will go a long way in relieving the club of the financial difficulties, but Inter may choose to keep him and find an alternative to solving their crisis.
7. Adrien Rabiot of Juventus
This is a tough one for the Bianconerri but they have no option than to wait on the decision of the Frenchman, whether or not he’ll choose to leave.
Taking his place in our top 10 Serie A players needing a move in the summer is Adrien Rabiot, whose contract at Juventus ends in June, and the club has received no green light on a renewal from the midfielder.
The 28-year-old has been Juventus’ undisputed best performer since a failed move to Manchester United in the summer of 2022, which saw Casemiro joined the English club instead.
Rabiot is mobile, energetic, quick in possession, and also renowned for his ability to make late attacking runs off the ball into the penalty box, courtesy of his intelligent movement.
He is also a composed passer, who possesses good link-up play and dribbling skills in close spaces, which enables him to create chances and unsettle the opposing defence.
While Juventus awaits his decision, he will not decide until the end of the European Championship in the summer, and the consequences of that delay could see the Italian giant bid farewell to the former PSG man.
6. Alessandro Buongiomo of Torino
Despite tying him down on a contract until 2028, the Granata will have a difficult task keeping hold of the highly rated center back with top teams hot on his trail.
Best center back in the Serie A this season ? Buongiomo is not only one of, but arguably the best and the most important of the set-up that has Torino in 11th place in the ongoing league season.
Despite their position on the log, only three of Inter, Juventus and Bologna have a better defensive record than Torino in the Serie A season, and Buongiomo’s traits in written all over how they do it.
The 24-year-old Italian has also added three league goals to his name, all which have been worth six of the club’s 41 points so far.
Chelsea, Manchester United and AC Milan have all registered interest in him and could be on his way out of Turin come the end of the season.
An exciting player in our list of the distinguished top 10 Serie A players that would attract interests due to the season they are having.
5. Teun Koopmeniers of Atalanta
Liverpool has shown interest in Teun Koopmeniers, but his recent contract extension until 2027 will make a potential move from Bergamo a tad difficult.
The Dutchman is highly rated and has always been since his arrival in Italy from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2021 and has already informed Atalanta of his intention to leave the club this summer.
Koopmeniers can be deployed as a defensive midfielder or central midfielder. He can also play as a centre-back. Renown for his leadership qualities, and captained AZ Alkmaar despite his young age.
Naturally left footed, Koopmeiners is very good at driving the ball forward from the back, and has the attributes to shield the ball under pressure. He doesn’t surrender possession easily.
He is a productive machine and has already registered 16 goal involvements for Atalanta this season, making it yet his most productive campaign with the club, though he has had better while in the Netherlands with AZ.
Recently turned 26, Koopmeniers is at that period where he can get a move to a bigger club and should be looking to take advantage of the season he is having come the summer transfer window.
Included in our top 10 Serie A players to watchout for in the coming window and we feel top teams in Italy and abroad should have a look at his profile.
4. Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna
The world could see that Joshua Zirkzee was destined for greatness when he made his debut with the Bayern Munich senior team in a UEFA Champions League meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in December 2019.
18-year-old at the time, Zirkzee has earned himself a fame in Germany, having already impressed with the club’s youth teams following his arrival from Feyenoord in 2017.
Standing at 6ft 4in, Zirkzee is a giant of a striker who is expert at holding up the ball and bringing others into play. He loves to play alongside another striker because he prefers coming deep to get involve in play rather than wait up top for it.
Strong at protecting the ball with his back to goal, Zirkzee is also excellent technically, boasting quick feet and able to maneuver his way out of tight spaces.
He progression slowed down following his first season as a professional but the Dutchman was able to get his career back on track while on loan at Anderlecht in the 2021-22 season, which earned him a move to Bologna.
His performance in the Serie A this season has-been stupendous, with 10 goals and three assists in 24 games, he is one of the top 10 Serie A players to watchout for in the cominh window.
Despite his contract lasting until the summer of 2026, selling him in the coming window will be huge profit for Bologna, even so as top teams seem interested in his case.
3.Khvicha Kvaratskhelia of Napoli
Best player in the Serie A last season, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has earned himself a place in the annals of folklores in the streets of Napoli for his contribution in their historical campaign.
However, the club is fast becoming a shadow of itself, hitting the downward curve following the departure of the mastermind of their success, Luciano Spalletti, who is now in charge of the Italian national team.
Kvaratskhelia takes his place in our top 10 Serie A players needing a move out of their current club in the summer, because the world needs his talent to remain at the top of the game, a level which Napoli is no longer at.
The Georgian is a technical monster, one of the best dribblers currently in the game. A left-winger that loves to drop the shoulders of fullbacks with his quick feet and tricks.
Kvaratskhelia is efficient in ball progression and creating opportunities for his team, but he is equally as efficient in taking advantage of the chances to get himself the goals.
Since signing for Napoli at the start of last season, he has been directly involved in 43 club goals, while he has also been responsible for many others.
His contract with Napoli does not end until 2027 but despite Aurelio De Laurentiis being a tough man to deal with, a worthy bid could make him fall to reason, because another season like the one Napoli is having will only see the value of the 23-year-old diminish.
2. Victor Osimhen of Napoli
Just like Kvaratskhelia, his partner in crime Victor will also not be quickly forgotten in the history books in Naples all due to their remarkable feat last season.
The group, inspired by Osimhen and Kvaratskhelia led Napoli to their first league title in 33 years, and also reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals for the first time in the club’s history.
Osimhen finished top scorer in the Serie A, becoming the first Napoli player to win the Capocannonieri since Gonzalo Higuain in 2015-16.
The current CAF Men’s best player is renown for his explosive pace, strong aerial ability, and clinical finishing in front of goal. He has 72 goals for Napoli, 44 of which have come since the start of last season.
The Nigerian has two years left on his current contract amd has been linked with a host of top teams, including Chelsea, Arsenal and PSG Paris Saint-German to replace the departing Kylian Mbappé.
It is looking likely that this is Victor Osimhen’s final season with Napoli hence his inclusion in our top 10 Serie A players bound for a summer exit.
Valued at €110 million, trust Aurelio De Laurentiis to optimize this valuation and see him become the most expensive African player of all-time.
1. Rafael Leao of AC Milan
It’ll be five years since he signed for Milan, Rafael Leao has helped the Rossonerri to one Scudetto and maybe that is the best he can do for the club. This summer should see him sail away from the shores of San Siro.
Faithful servant ? The 24-year-old has surely been one for the seven time European champions. Despite the pressure and links with top teams when Milan were shambles, he still committed his future and helped them to the league title.
An explosive yet entertaining wing player, Leao is joy to watch and Milan ultras must be proud to behold such a gem. His inclusion in our list of top 10 Serie A players heading out means they’ll have to learn to live without him.
The Portuguese is one assist away from reaching double figures for both goals and assists in the last three seasons. His consistency has seen his stock risen over the years, and as well made top clubs been on his case.
Linked with Barcelona almost every window but unfortunately, the financial constraints of the Blaugrana could see them pass the chance, though Leao will not be short of suitors.
PSG, Manchester City and Arsenal are clubs Leao would find space in, and Milan at this time should look at the contract until 2028 and think of how valuable it makes the player, rather than how long they can keep him.
Rafael Leao completes the list of our top 10 Serie A players who could be on the move in the coming summer transfer window.
