It is not more news that Xavi Hernandez has been fired as the coach of Barcelona ahead of his final game of the season away in Seville on Sunday evening.
The former midfielder was appointed as the boss following the sacking of Ronald Koeman midway through the 2021-22 campaign, leading them to the league title in his full season.
His future at the club became a bone of contention following a comment made by the Spaniard on the future of the club amidst their financial turmoil.
Xavi, speaking in an interview admitted to Barcelona’s struggles financially, stating that fans should lower their expectations as the malady will most likely affect them in the future.
This comment did not go down well with the board and despite assuring him that he has their backing, the management changed their stance and wanted the Spaniard out of the club.
However, the remained coy about finalizing the decision because Xavi has a contract until 2025, and sacking him and his staff will cost them around €20 million compensation fees.
The club, led by President Joan Laporta wanted Xavi to resign, but the former Al-Sadd boss did not want to leave the club. He even confessed that he has the words of Laporta and sporting director, Deco, for his continuity amidst the speculations of the club wanting to sack him.
In the end, Barcelona brought the news out in the open and confirmed that their former captain will leave the club at the end of the season, with German tactician Hansi Flick taking over.
Xavi leaves Barcelona with a relieving gift
It is expected that Xavi and his staff take a compensation of around €20 million from Barcelona but the 44-year-old will not take the money for himself, but only those belonging to his staff.
When asked if he’d take his salary from the club, Xavi responds; “I’ve answered this before and I always keep my word”.
Xavi has said he won’t take his compensation fee from Barcelona, leaving the club relieved as the otherwise could have heaped more misery for their financial situation.
Despite the poor treatment by the club’s management, Xavi showed he is forever faithful to Barcelona, hence Culers will continue to appreciate and love him.

I don’t see the point in being faithful to a club that was not faithful to him. His only crime was that he reneged on the agreement not to spill the beans about their current financial situation. However what he said is the truth.
Since their financial woes began, Barca have been known to emotionallly manipulate players into either leaving their money, taking lower wages or deferring their payments. What have they ever done to show their gratitude to their faithful players?
