The meeting between both sides has become a famous fixture in the English top-flight as they both have been the best two teams in the league for the past couple of seasons, and are already neck to neck on the log this season.
Liverpool occupy the top position on the log followed closely by The Citizens with just a point between them. The visitors are slowly getting over the poor start to the campaign.
However, they head into this match on the back of a 2-0 defeat in the hands of PSG in the Champions league. While the result was not encouraging, Pep Guardiola side can take positive in their play as they were so much the better side on the night in Paris.
Liverpool have started the season well and have remained unbeaten, picking up just two draws. They walloped Porto 5-1 in the mid-week Champions league game and look very confident ahead of the meeting with the defending champions.
It was all City in their last trip to Anfield as they earned their first win in the ground of their host for the first time since 2003. A day to forget for Allison Becker, who was responsible for two errors leading to goals in a 4-1 win for the visitors.
The host will miss Harvey Elliott and Thiago Alcantara for this clash. Trent Alexander-Arnold is also a doubt for the game. Oleksandr Zinchenko and Ilkay Gundogan have also been ruled out for the visitors.
Predicted line-ups
Liverpool: Allison, Milner, Van Dijk, Matip, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Jones, Mane, Jota, Salah.
Man City: Ederson, Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Walker, Rodri, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Grealish, Jesus, Sterling.
