After a meeting held on Wednesday involving all the stakeholders, an agreement was reached that the German topflight resume on the 16th of this month.
The BundesLiga has been postponed since mid-February after matchday 25 due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus.
Germany Chancellor Angela Merkel confirmed on Wednesday that the league will resume by the second half of this month as long as teams adhere to the rules.
The German government released the following statement after the meeting on Wednesday: “The Federal Chancellor and the heads of government of the federal states consider the continuation of play in the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga to be justifiable for the 36 clubs eligible to start there at their expense from the second half of May.
Match week 26 will start on the 16 of this month and the 2019/20 league season is scheduled to be concluded by the 27th and 28th of next month.
The BundesLiga will become the first among the European top five leagues to return to action after the French League was cancelled last week.
There has been moves by the Serie A, La Liga Santander and the Premier League to resume their respective leagues too.
