Both side lost their first games with Kennyology FC losing 2-0 to The Expendables while Empire FC fell to Faka United by a lone goal and at kickoff, both know a win for either side will spell the end for the other in the competition.
It was Empire FC that had the better start to the game and their early dominance paid dividends when Samson beat the offside line to send a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
They continue to dominate proceedings as they tried to double their lead but it was not meant to be and as Kennyology FC were not much of a threat, Empire FC held on to take their first points in the competition while Kennyology exit and will only be playing their last game against Faka United for the culture.
The second game of the group was played later in the day as Faka United locked horns with The Expendables. Both sides won their first games and knew a win for either will send them through to the next round.
However, there was nothing to separate them at full time as they both settled for a point. The best chance of the game fell to Lawrence, who took much time before getting a shot away and he was eventually denied the chance to have a goal at goal.
Faka United will be more disappointed as they dominated a good percentage of the possession but Coach Olamifesi Clinton’s boys were unable to convert their dominance to goals as a frustrating evening of football ended in a draw.
The result put them four points, same as their opponent, The Expendables. Empire FC are on three points while Kennyology FC are yet to record a point after two games.
Group C game between Javelin Boys and Fandane FC ended in a goalless draw. For the second game running, Javelin Boys failed to win a game that they were presented a host of opportunities to get out of sight of their opponents in both half with Olorunlomerue Aliyu and Wasiu squandering countless opportunites to the frustration of their coach, Richie.
Kuti was on the receiving of a red card from the referee after a bad and hard tackle just on the edge of his own area on an opposition attacker late on in the game.
The other group C game between Predators FC and Hydro FC also ended in a stalemate as no goal was produced in 90 minutes of football action.
The result leave both Predators and Hydro on the top of the standings with four points apiece. Fandane FC and Javelin Boys are on a point each which translates to any two of the teams in the group can still qualify for the quarters depending on results on final group game day.
