Kylian Mbappé has won the first round of his legal battle against PSG over unpaid bonuses and the French champions has been ordered to pay the Real Madrid man the owed €55 million.
The governing body of professional football league in France, LFP, has given verdict on the case between Kylian Mbappé and PSG Paris Saint-German ovet the unpaid bonuses to the Frenchman following his departure from the club in the summer.
Prior to passing the verdict, The LFP legal committee initially recommended mediation. However, the suggestion was not welcomed by Kylian Mbappé. The committee has now ordered PSG to pay €55M due to Mbappé refusing the mediation.
PSG will not pay €55m to Mbappé
PSG Paris Saint-German is has however published a statement to confirm that it will not pay the money to Kylian Mbappé because the 25-year-old had verbally given it up in front of many witnesses. A club statement reads:
“Having heard the arguments of the parties yesterday, the Commission repeatedly insisted upon mediation between PSG and the player to find a compromise in light of PSG’s favorable arguments. This mediation process has been refused by the player, contrary to the Commission’s recommendation.
As such, and in light of the limitations of the Commission’s legal scope to take a complete decision on this matter, the matter must now be contested in another legal forum, to which PSG is delighted to present all the facts over the coming months and year.
As a matter of law and fact, the player has made clear, repeated public and private commitments that must be respected, having been afforded unprecedented benefits by the Club over seven years in Paris – and the club looks forward to these being upheld in the proper forum, if the player seeks to pursue this incomprehensibly reputationally damaging matter further, in due course.”
Kylian Mbappé left PSG as a free agent in the summer following the end of his seven years stint, which started in 2017 when he was signed on an initial loan and eventually joined in a permanent deal worth £180 million, making him the second most expensive player of all time behind Neymar Jr. The condition of the departure of a player who could easily cost world record transfer fee is does not please the French champions.
What next for Kylian Mbappé
To continue with the case, Kylian Mbappé has to go to the Employment Tribunal if he wants the money. LFP’s legal commission only ruled the verdict that PSG has to pay the money because it is the only course of action they could take after Mbappé refused mediation and due to their limited powers.
LFP’s verdict is non-binding and Mbappé will need to take further legal action to stand any chance of getting paid the €55M he reportedly gave up.
