Real Madrid have announced in an official statement on Friday that the striker has sustained an injury during the corovirus-enforced lockdown.
Real Madrid players were present at the club’s training ground on Wednesday to undergo the covid-19 test ahead of the start of the resumption of matches in next month.
The club have now confirmed that the Serbian reported to duty with a fractured right foot and will be out for up to 6-8 weeks.
“After the tests carried out today on our player Luka Jovic by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an extra-articular fracture in the calcaneus bone of his right foot,” a statement published on the club’s website reads.
Jovic 22, has endured a difficult start to life in Spain after sealing a reported €60m move from Eintracht Frankfurt Last summer, registering just two goals from 24 outings for the Zinedine Zidane’s side.
A lot was expected of the striker who had a wonderful season in the BundesLiga and the Europa League but has not been really given the chance to shine by Zinedine Zidane who only played him from the bench in most of his appearance for the Blaugrana.
Rumors have been linking him with a move away from the Bernabeu as top Premier League clubs battle for his signature. Chelsea and Arsenal are believed to be monitoring the situation of the former Frankfurt man and Madrid could be open to loaning him ahead of the start of next season.
As it looks, Jovic might miss the rest of season due to the injury and Real may be limited to Karim Benzema as their only option upfront in the remaining fixtures of the season as they look to battle FC Barcelona for the La Liga title and overcome their 2-1 deficit against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League.
