Manchester United boss, Ralf Rangnick responds to this by acknowledging fans have the right to to express their opinion but bemoans the protest be peaceful.
Rangnick in his prematch press conference said, “I believe our supporters are one of if not the best in England and as long as they protest in a peaceful way and as along as they still support the team in the stadium I think they have the right to express their opinion.”
“We all know that football is a game of passions and emotions and we can all understand. I can understand the supporters being disappointed about where we stand in the table and the performance against Everton.”
Manchester United have recorded only one win in their last seven games, a run which saw them lose to Atletico Madrid at Old Trafford and ended up being eliminated from the Champions League in the round of 16
Rangnick continued, “Emotionally, I can understand them (Manchester United fans) being disappointed.”
“I think we’ve had quite a few games where we really played well in the way that we played together as a team. But what we haven’t done (so far) is do it in a sustainable way and over a longer period of time, and I’m disappointed about that.”
Rangnick on Erik ten Hag: “I don’t know if it’s a done deal. My reply is the same as Erik Ten Hag’s was. My focus is on the game tomorrow.”
Rangnick on Erik ten Hag: “We all know he is a good manager, that he has done a good job at Ajax and also at former clubs, but right now it doesn’t make sense to tell you what I think about any other coach.”
Rangnick on whether Luke Shaw will be available: “As it seems, he will be out for another at least four weeks, if not five weeks, so I think for him it will be difficult to be available for one of the remaining seven games.”
On United’s run of poor form: “In football in general, no matter where, this is what it’s all about [taking it game by game]. It doesn’t make sense to speculate how other teams will play or if they will drop points or not.”
“As long as we don’t win our own games, the other results won’t be in a favour, so our focus is on tomorrow.”
“I can imagine what reasons we can’t sustain performances. Without using it as an excuse, we have lost a few players since the West Ham game, for example, we lost three of our strikers, who were all part of that game and part of that last-second goal.”
“Right now, we are missing quite a few others players with Fred and McTominay, our two defensive midfielders, so this is probably one reason we can’t sustain performances, but in total, it’s that we’re not sustainably playing at the highest possible level.”
Manchester United host 20th place Norwich City on Saturday afternoon before playing away at Liverpool and Arsenal later in the month.
