Manchester United loaned out the English defender to Roma last summer and he has since become a transformed player with series of impressive performances in the Italian topflight.
Chris Smalling’s performance in the current campaign has impressed United faithfuls who wished the defender can be given a chance at the Old Trafford.
Smalling has also done enough to also get a permanent deal from the Italian side as Roma coach Paulo Fonseca was reported to have confessed his plans to keep the former Fulham man at the club interview.
Fonseca said :”I will do everything I can to keep him at Roma next year too,” He told ESPN. “I know he wants to stay, let’s see what happens.
“He’s an amazing man, so humble, so professional. He is adored by the fans and established himself as one of the leaders in the dressing room.
“It’s not easy for English central defenders to adapt so quickly to Italian football, the record there isn’t good. But he has been amazing.”
With the defensive pairing of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire paying dividends for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at the moment, and with Eric Bailey fit and battling for a start, Smalling could well decide to stay in Italy, where he is valued and have lot of playing times but United have the right to bring him back as he still has 2years left on his current contract with the club.
However, the 30year old has remained silence on his future plans.
