Arsenal are reportedly keen on taking advantage of the Vinicius Junior contract situation at Real Madrid to try and lure him to England in what would be a sensational move, but the revelation has given rise to endless questions.
When David Ornstein of The Athletic broke the news on a Saturday afternoon, fans and pundits alike started debating whether the deal makes any sense, given the reason the Brazilian wants out of Madrid in the first place.
Still, it’s worth noting that Arsenal probably know what they’re getting into, and can’t be entirely clueless about the sacrifices needed to land one of the best players in the world.
With Vinicius entering the final year of his current deal, Real Madrid may soon have to make one of the toughest decisions of the Florentino Pérez era, and that is cashing in and cutting their loss.
Amid the tension building in Arsenal’s fanbase and the pressure suddenly mounting at their rivals’ end, here are the questions that actually matter.
Can Vinicius Jr. leave Real Madrid?
The biggest reason Arsenal are even being linked with Vinicius is his contract, which has entered the final 12 months and runs out on June 30, 2027, while months of talks over an extension haven’t produced an agreement.
Real Madrid simply cannot afford to watch a player of his value walk away for nothing next summer, which is why a sale this window, rather than risk a free exit, has become the more sensible route for the club.

The only area that appears relatively modest is traditional counter-pressing frequency, where he sits around the 43rd percentile. However, his 71st percentile for counter-press regains indicates that when he does engage immediately after losing possession, he remains highly effective.
His heat map for the season also reinforces the numbers. Vinicius applies pressure aggressively across the opposition half, particularly down the left flank, exactly where Arsenal build many of their attacks.
