Borussia Dortmund stood no chance of reaching the UEFA Champions League semi-finals after a heavy 4-0 loss in Barcelona last week, but a Serhou Guirassy hat-trick ensured the traveling fans did have a moment of worry in the Signa Iduna Park.
The Guinean was the star of the show on a silent night for Barcelona’s defence and more so attackers, who have scored the most goals in the competition this season.
Unbeaten in 24 games since the turn of the year, Serhou Guirassy made a mockery of the Blaugrana, scoring three goals to add to his two against them earlier in the competition, to make more than. 38 percent of his goals come against the side that boast one of the best defensive record in the world.
His numbers in this maiden edition of the UEFA Champions League new format are staggering, the best ever seen from an African in history, and despite BVB’s exit, this season will be fondly remembered in the club, Africa, and the history of Guinea.
Serhou Guirassy’s GOATed UCL Campaign
Best-Ever in Borussia Dortmund History
Serhou Guirassy finished the tournament with 13 goals, the most of any player in the history of the competition for Borussia Dortmund.

A club that has been represented by world class strikers like Robert Lewandowski and Braut Erling Haaland, Guirassy broke the record previously shared between the two in just his debut season for the club.
Previously, the record for most goals for the club in a single Champions League campaign was 10, set by both Robert Lewandowski in 2012-13 and then Erling Haaland in 2020-21.
Guirassy, in his debut season, unarguably with the worst Borussia Dortmund team in almost two decades, has been able to achieve this height, despite having to play a lot of better teams that his own.
Best-Ever from an African
Aside Europe and partially North America, Africa is the continent that light up the biggest club continental competition of the world, yet, this performance from Serhou Guirassy stands out.
His 13 goals surpassed the previous record for most by an African in a single edition of the Champions League, eleven goals set by Sebastien Haller at Ajax in 2021-22 season.

Samuel Eto’o, George Weah, Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Didier Drogba to mention but a few, have all represented and still represent the continent in the competition, but none of these was or have been able to do a Guirassy in 2024-25.
13 goals and four assists in 14 games, the 27-year-old showed why Dortmund spend the money to snap him up after just a season as a Stuttgart player in a permanent deal.
Although he may not finish as the top scorer, he definitely has left his mark on the new format Champions League, and if Europe forgets anytime soon, it will still last longer in the history of Africa, Dortmund, and Guinea.
